Not really, this is far from being usable as a game. It has no coherent understanding of the world or mechanics or anything. Plus of course it takes essentially a supercomputer to generate this.
Saying it needs to be just a little smarter is like saying people just needed to be a little smarter in the 1600s and they could’ve built a rocket to the moon. Technically true but practically it’s not going to happen.
Games require exactness in their mechanics to be enjoyable, AI can do decently at producing fuzzy things like art but it is not going to be able to do what is needed for a game really anytime soon at least.

We are entering a new era. Also knowing that it’s not just building a 3D world and is actually generating everything on the fly, I agree that its object permanence is impressive.

For sure. I’m just impressed at the object permanence it seems to have after coming to this from the AI Minecraft demo last year. The team behind wan came out with an open source one this week (though you need like 6 high end GPUs to run it) so there will definitely be a lot of competitors popping up in the future. And probably for cheaper.

Lmao. I find it interesting that Genie already has competition. Hopefully we see a bunch of world models pop up soon.
