Well yes, but the BEST tool is not always in the kit one has on hoof. Both service providers (electricians for instance) and service MEMBERS (AKA Soldiers) learn to make do anyway.
That being said if he can block or pin well enough… something to get a campfire going even in decidedly suboptimal conditions is useful for a soldier, and the Sparkle Clan are high horsepower (hah) casters. If his mark encompasses such spells at all (he CAN do offensive bolts), then yes, as I implied he might be seconds away from such a manuever.
I would think this would be a very bad weapon to end up with against a timberwolf… At least how it is usually used, since they can probably get impaled all the way through while taking minimal harm. Best to use it like a quarterstaff, and, if getting their sticks cut harms them, maybe as a very oddly proportioned slashing weapon (I know that their is at least one spear exercise (kata?) that includes a part that would cut the front of the opponents foot off).
Might be hard to get that much subtlety out of an AI that forgot to include a TK glow on the spear. One could headcanon those together to say he just let go of the spear and is about to blast it.
I like the style, setting, and the action. The design of the wolf and all the little plants and fungi, especially the glowing ones. I’m not a fan of square muzzles on mares, but they look fine on stallions.
